Derwent Brass Concert

Derwent Brass

10 piece ensemble

Winshill Methodist Church Highbank Road DE15 0HU

 Saturday 28th April at 7:30pm

Tickets £5 (under 16s free)

For further details please phone 01283 541118

When it comes to performances in small churches, or special occasions such as receptions, informal events, village fetes, etc, sometimes a full blown brass band is just too much.

Solution – the Derwent Brass 10 piece Ensemble! Since being formed in 2003 the ensemble has performed at local churches, civic events, shopping centres, weddings, and numerous private functions and receptions. The ensemble undertook a whistle stop trip to Germany to take part in the Maintz Christmas Festival 2003, and again in 2004.

The group consists of 9 brass players (3 cornets, flugel horn, tenor horn, 2 trombones, euphonium and tuba), plus kit percussion.

The players are all members of the full Championship section Derwent Brass Band which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Over the forthcoming months they will be performing at the Blackpool Winter Gardens, Derby Cathedral and Derby Assembly Rooms and numerous other locations around the Midlands.

The group’s concerts are always very entertaining and an evening of good music is guaranteed. Please support this event in aid of church funds.

Acting Opportunity

I am the artistic director of Genieoutthebottle theatre company based in Burton and wonder if I could enlist the help of Badac to invite enthusiastic actors to audition to take part in a production of an original work that I intend to take to the Buxton Fringe this year after the success of my first endeavour last july. As you are probably aware Buxton is the third biggest arts festival in the UK and the fore-runner to the infamous Edinburgh Festival Fringe.:

Auditions will take part on Thursday 19 April at Derby Street Baptist Church between 6-9pm and I am looking for 4 people, over the age of 18 years, to play a grandfather of 75 years; one boy and one girl for school students of approximately 15 years and a young woman to play late twenties – for this role I would welcome anyone from a mixed race background.

I can be contacted via email or by calling 0787 564 8562 and I will then sent out an applications and auditions speech.

Thank you for your assistance.

Mellows-A Chorus Line.

The Mellow Dramatics are pleased to announce their next production: ‘A Chorus Line’ which is coming to Burton on Trent in May 2012. The 1975 musical is about a group of hopeful dancers auditioning for a place in a Broadway show.

The show is set on the bare stage of a Broadway theatre during an audition for a musical. In between learning audition moves, they each reveal their most personal stories in inteviews with the director, Zach. Through song, monologue and dance the audience glimpse into the personalities of the performers as they describe events in their lives that have made them who they are today, and their decision to become dancers.

But which 8 dancers have done enough to convince Zach that they belong?

UCS-Stainer’s The Crucifixion

125 years after its London Premiere in 1887, Uttoxeter Choral Society would like to welcome you to mark Passiontide with a performance of John Stainer’s The Crucifixion at St. Mary’s Parish Church, Uttoxeter on Saturday 24th March 2012 at 7.30pm.

Under the direction of Anthony Rose, the concert will bring talented soloists John Evanson and Peter Kelly to Uttoxeter, accompanied by organist, Ivan Linford. The choir’s rich sound is a pleasure to hear and is a testament to the hard work and dedication of Anthony and the choir members as they approach their 130th Anniversary season in September.

Dramatic and deeply affecting, Stainer’s The Crucifixion vividly portrays the events of the Passion of Christ. John Stainer was one of the most distinguished musicians of his generation and his moving setting of the events of the Easter story is enduringly popular. The choir will also be performing Stainer’s anthem Lead, Kindly Light with its lavish harmonies – an 1868 setting of John Henry Newman’s famous hymn.

Uttoxeter Choral Society gratefully acknowledges the generous support of Angus MacKinnon Vehicle Services, Uttoxeter in sponsoring this concert.

Tickets are available from The Musicians Centre, Uttoxeter, on the door or at and are priced at £10 (free for under 16s).
