This month we are celebrating Local and Community History Month, with events taking place across Staffordshire. In our own district, this is what you can look forward to. Please book tickets by phoning or visiting the relevant library.

 “Dusty bones: the Stapenhill cemetery and the Anglo-Saxons in the Trent Valley”: A local history talk by Dr Kevin Leahy

Wednesday 5 September, 7:00 – 9:00pm.

£3.50 including cold refreshments (£3.00 for library members, including concessions).

 Featuring the famous Stapenhill Skeleton from the museum!

 

 The First Poppy: A craft and story session with the National Memorial Arboretum

Saturday 8 September, 2:00 – 3:00pm.

Free. All children aged 11 and under with their parents are welcome. Book early to be sure of a place.

Wednesday 12 September, 10.00am – 12.00

“Edward Wightman, the Burton Heretic”: A local history talk by Dr Ian Atherton

Monday 17 September, 7.00 – 8:30pm

£3.50 including refreshments (£3.00 for library members, including concessions).

 Come and hear about the last man to be burned at the stake in England, 400 years ago in 1612. And would you believe it, he was a Burtonian!
