Fifty children from the Burton, Swadlincote and Derby areas are celebrating after passing their speech and drama exams with flying colours.
The children aged between five and 16 from Theatre Cats Stage School which has classes in Burton, Newhall and Mickleover took drama exams run by Trinity College London and every student passed.
They had to prepare monologues, mimes, recite poetry, discuss their chosen work and engage in story-telling to pass the exams. Some even had to write their own pieces and improvise during their exams.
The exam process was purely optional for every student and 50 decided to take the plunge.
Theatre Cats principal Catherine Budworth said: “The weekend of exams ranging from grade 1-8 in speech and drama and acting skills were a huge success with every student achieving the required pass-mark.”
“The children and their parents were absolutely thrilled when we gave them the news. We look forward to presenting the certificates to the students in September. We are really proud of our students – they have all worked so hard.”
Theatre Cats offers theatre classes for five to 16 year olds in Staffordshire and Derbyshire and they will also be opening classes for adults and pre-school children soon.
The children have just started rehearsals for their upcoming musical in December – Honk! A musical tale about the story of the ugly duckling and finding out that being different is ”eggciting.”
Although several Theatre Cats classes are already full, enrolment is now open for available September classes. More information as well as a coupon for a free taster class is available by calling 01283 337953 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
