On Saturday November 15th Uttoxeter Choral Society commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of World War I with a performance of The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace by Karl Jenkins in St. Mary’s Parish Church, Uttoxeter lead by inspirational conductor, Anthony Rose.
The concert will feature readings and poems alongside a moving performance of this popular mass. Commissioned by The Royal Armouries, the piece was written to mark the end of a millennium ravaged by wars and to create a legacy of peace and hope for the future. With powerful, haunting music and texts ranging from the Muslim Call to Prayer and the Bible to poetry by Kipling and Tennyson, it brings the listener on an inspirational journey from the cacophony of war to a final message of hope and peace. Completing the evening will be a performance of Rheinberger Stabat Mater.
The performance will take place on Saturday 15th November 2014 at 7.30pm in St. Mary’s Church, Bridge Street, Uttoxeter. Tickets are available on the door and are priced at £10.
