Local Photographers Rob Joyce and Paul Hodson-Walker are excited at getting their first opportunity to put on a large scale exhibition of their work. They have a joint exhibition at The Brewhouse Arts Centre running from 19th February to 29th March. They were both really pleased to win awards at last year’s Burton and District Arts Council’s Open exhibition at The Brewhouse Arts Centre; Rob won the ‘ESBC Innovation Award’ and Paul ‘The People’s Choice’
Paul said; “Winning the award meant a lot and gave me the encouragement to go for an exhibition of my own. I’ve had a lifelong passion for the art and was inspired to take up photography by my father who is also a skilled photographer. My work focuses on landscapes, both local and further afield and use multiple exposure techniques to bring out the detail and vibrancy presented by the subject. These techniques highlight the natural beauty to the audience, drawing them in to the image to a point where they feel immersed in the experience”
Part of the ESBC award was the opportunity of a free exhibition which Rob was keen to do to. He creates interesting, creative and thought provoking images using different photograph manipulation techniques. The final image is developed through three stages; 360o photography, creating a panoramic image and then distorting the panoramic into the ideas of the artist. He explains further:
“This artwork shares the enjoyment I have in setting and overcoming technical challenges; pushing boundaries of what has been done before whilst paying respect to what others have achieved; although the technique of panoramic photography to form a 360 degree image is well known, I wanted to push the images and techniques further to convey more meaning through the final pictures”.
You can view the exhibitions at The Brewhouse Arts Centre from now until 29th March. There will be an opportunity to meet the artists at the second ‘Sight Sound and Social’ at The Brewhouse on Friday March 7th from 7 to 9 pm; these events bring together art, music and of course the opportunity to socialise.
The Brewhouse aims to support local emerging artists so they were keen to support these 2 photographers with their first exhibitions.
