Sight, Sound and Socialise at the Brewhouse

Sight, Sound and Socialise at the Brewhouse

Join us for a creative evening of art and music.

The evening will be a chance to view our current exhibitions and meet the artists behind the work whilst enjoying experimental acoustic music and performance by Scott Milligan and Mark Hamon of Kitten Pyramid.

As part of our 2014 gallery programme we will be having regular ‘Sight, Sound and Socialise’ events mixing art, music and performance, offering new creative experiences at The Brewhouse Arts Centre

The event on Thursday 30th January runs from 7 – 9pm and includes a complimentary glass of wine, but the bar will be open for those who want to stay and make a proper evening of it!

Our latest exhibitions offer a contrasting view of how we interpret our surroundings.

Teresa Wells ARBS ‘Did you Get The Message?’

Teresa looks at issues of how we communicate, often focusing on isolation and miscommunication resulting in disconcerted connections. Through the medium of sculpture and drawing Teresa explores the tenuous relationship between man, society, religion, law, and kinship; she is fascinated by the question ‘How do Human’s Behave?’

Laura Vann ‘The Creatures of Brimstone Grove’

The exhibition features a world, much like our own, inhabited by ‘Lummoxes’, who despite their large horns and sharp teeth are friendly guardian’s of the night that scare away bedtime monsters. The Lummoxes are seen exploring their environment whether that is the town or their natural habitat the forest.

 Kitten Pyramid

This Burton based band has been featured as one of The Guardian’s ‘New Band of the Day’ as well as regular plays on 6 Music’s Chris Hawkins and Tom Robinsons shows. The full Kitten Pyramid experience offers a mix of music that merges different genres in surprising ways, described by some as ‘progressive rock’, however they offer up more than that.

On the evening, Scott and Mark will be playing an acoustic set of some songs from the forthcoming album along with new material they’ve been working on for album 2. Alongside this, they will be creating participatory pieces, including improvisation and audience involvement.

Scott Milligan will also be performing at Alive! A brand new live music experience in Burton, at The Brewhouse, showcasing home-grown, high profile talent in an auditorium venue built for a heart-stopping live performance of music, sound and light. The first line up on 5th February will be Tilted Smile, Star From Ivy and 5 Days of November, as well as a performance by Scott in the bar area.
