Story Wells of East Staffordshire Project

East Staffordshire Borough Council Arts Development Team wishes to commission three Storytellers to gather and record stories about the rich and diverse heritage of East Staffordshire and uncover stories about Burton upon Trent’s rich brewing heritage from the 1960’s and 70’s.
Each Storyteller will:
Collect and record oral histories, working with older people from a variety of community and healthcare settings.
Run an ‘inspiration’ event to engage the general public.
Work with a minimum of 15 people.
Collect and edit a minimum of 20 stories and supply them in agreed written and audio formats. (Voice recording equipment provided).
Highlight interesting stories from audio footage for ‘Project Wired’ to edit.
Prepare extracts of stories for an A5 booklet.
Support with identifying a small number of interesting stories to be transcribed.
Work with volunteers and support them where appropriate.
Storytellers will have:
Experience of working with community groups and individuals to collect and edit stories.
Preferably have experience of running community reminiscence sessions.
Experience of collecting stories and turning them into a professional storytelling event.
It is desirable but not essential to have experience of working in a healthcare setting.
Total Fee £2650
12 half day sessions paid at £150.
3 whole days editing paid at £200 per day.
1 story telling performance paid at £250.
In addition, transport costs are calculated at 0.45 pence per mile, capped at a 60 mile round trip £27. A small materials budget is available.
The Story Wells project is funded by Heritage Lottery and East Staffordshire Borough Council.
