Burton Competitive Vocal Festival
from 9.30am on Sunday 3rd March at the Brewhouse.
The entry fee for spectators is £5 and that lasts for the whole day.
BCVF has over a hundred entries with the usual full houses in the Classes for Songs from the Shows. The Sunday afternoon Recital Class has again attracted some serious adult classical singers and promises well.
This year there is a new class sponsored by Mrs Julie Hair for a jazz solo. Her father was a former Burton dance band pianist and so the trophy bears his name – Syd Jones.
In 2012 a well known local soprano Marilyn Baker died and in order to perpetuate her memory Friday’s Friends have given a cup for the most promising Soprano. This year no one has entered the Novice Class so Anne Leatherland has agreed her sponsorship may go to the winner of the Marilyn Baker Trophy for this year.
Sunday evening will start at 7pm with the ensemble Class which promises excellent competition between All That JASS, Burton Operatic Society,a barbershop quartet, Dolce, Vocalise and Friday’s Friends. This is followed by the Class winners singing for the Overall awards.
Our adjudicators come from both ends of the country – Mary Powney from Kendal in Cumbria and Christopher Jennings from Bristol.
This year the Festival has had some new officers who have taken on specific roles in the organisation of the competition.
Thanks to Coral Gould for the info.
